ATM skimming is a technique used for thieving your identity during an ATM transaction. This technique uses a credit card skimmer to collect cards record and store your card number and pin code.

The technique used included two devices. A type of skimmer located over the card slot on the ATM accompanied by what appears to be a narrator mounted on the ATM on top of the keypad.
When the card was inserted, a device located over the slot scanned the magnetic strip and the account information was sent (wireless) to a customized cell phone secreted behind the fake speaker placed on the ATM above the keypad a small camera concealed in the fake speaker would then trace the pin number entered and stored it on a flash memory card.
The performer would then take a gift card that has not been activated and transmits the account information to the gift card via the magnetic strip thus rotating it into an ATM card. This device has been recognized with stealing in excess of $300,000 from people financial statement
In order to stop being taken at the ATM, a clear safeguard should be taken. Look for anything that just doesn't come out to belong, or looks out of position such as the fake speaker or a skimming device placed over the card slot.
Also, when typing in your pin number, protect the keypad with your other hand over in case there is a camera watching. Always check your bank statement or better still, apply for online account monitoring with your bank so you can check immediately to see if someone has been in your account.
